As for the medical care, lots of my friends here tell me that the Austrians treat pregnant mothers like princesses and that the Mutter Kind Pass is great because it helps you to know exactly what tests are needed and when as well as recording the information in one places for you. Once you are pregnant you are supposed to take the Pass with you wherever you go, never leave it at home. This means if (God forbid) anything happens and you have to go to hospital sooner than expected you always have all the info with you.
The Pass has another function (which doesn't apply to you...) for those mothers who will have the baby in Austria and continue to live there - it allows them to claim child benefit. If you haven't attended your tests during pregnancy you aren't entitled to child benefit. This is apparently to make sure that mothers take appropriate care of themselves and the baby during the pregnancy.
I'm looking forward to reading more about your experiences as the pregnancy progresses.
Love
EmilyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3675597085316655354.post-33907116673791982612012-02-08T19:37:30.102-05:002012-02-08T19:37:30.102-05:00I hear ya sister! That's super important to us Americans and something I don't think that the Europeans really understand. It's interesting/disturbing about the CMV. I've never heard of it and I'm pretty sure I haven't been tested for it, but I will definitely be talking with my doctor and midwife about it at this month's appointment. People here don't believe in keeping their children home if they're ill, so my son has been sick a number of times with "flu-like symptoms" since starting day school (which was about the same time I got pregnant) and had, of course, passed it on to me. In fact, he's home sick from school today.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00054295889132551249noreply@blogger.com
